If you read just this issue of Chew you’d think it was a silly comic. I guess a comic involving…

What a strange issue. It’s so strange I have to do a review on it. Honestly, I don’t think Paul…

Now that’s more like it! Last week had this series suffer from some really poor art from, shockingly, a Kubert….

November 10, 2013 5:57 pm I think my only 'popcorn comic' is CLONE. I could easily buy it in trade only and it's not ever going to be a 5/5 book. But every month I pick the issue up, have a blast reading it, and keep wanting to buy it in issues. But I can't imagine I'll ever go back to read the back issues again because, unlike say Snyder's Batman or Waid's DD, it isn't that compelling to re-read. Not to say I am dissing the main writer Schulner, and his partners, cause I met him this year at NYCC and he's a super nice dude. But at the end of the day it's a solid comic but it probably won't last in my mind as something amazing....If that makes sense.
November 9, 2013 3:07 pm Just saw it this morning and I really liked it. Not the greatest solo movie by Marvel Studios but the strongest release by them since Avengers. Here's a few specific things: 1) Tom Hiddleston is still fantastic. I really am intrigued to see how they're gonna handle him taking over as Odin in future movies. 2) The supporting cast on both Thor and Jane's side get a much needed boost in screen time. Kat Dennings and Skarsgard are hilarious in this with Skarsgard stealing the film at points. (Love the idea that he's gone completely insane thanks to Loki) But it was great to see more of The Warriors Three and Sif get much more time in this. That was my one big issue with the first Thor in that they hired fantastic actors to do them, and got one or two laughs when they land on Earth, but they got little to do. Hope they get even MORE screen time in the eventual third movie. 3) While movie can be funny I think the writers tried a bit too hard a times. Again, Skarsgard and Dennings were great but anything else kinda landed with a thud. 4) For a first time director Alan Taylor did a fantastic job. Great action scenes in this. 5) That mid-credits scene was not only awkward but kinda bad. Since James Gunn directed it I cannot really be pleased on what's to come for Guardians of the Galaxy. It just looked really cheap almost to the point that I was seeing a stage from the show Farscape. (I LOVE Farscape but man it really looks bad in that sequence) Shout out to Benico Del Toro for giving 110% on the weirdness though. Overall I'd give it a sold B and it is easily the best superhero movie of 2013. Here's my entire thoughts in a review if any are interested: http://a-collection-of-ramblings.tumblr.com/post/66492456558/review-thorthedarkworld
October 30, 2013 7:58 pm My 'Pagemaster' senses just kicked in!
October 6, 2013 5:26 pm It's been so long since I've read Year 100. I remember reading it when I used to work at Borders(*+-) and not liking the art. Of course I didn't know a thing about Paul Pope and seeing his art style for the first time just left me confused. I was used to Breyfogle, Timm, or even Jones's take on Batman so Pope's style is radically different from them. Now I'm a big fan of Paul Pope so I should give it a shot again. Really fun podcast with Paul and Scott! We should see these two do more together. *This was when a store called Borders existed +This was also when you could buy books at a store -This was also a time when print books were around
September 8, 2013 5:20 pm Well one good thing about this new era is that we don't know what the POTW is until Sunday. So it'll be a fun guessing game AND we won't have to hear people complain if he/she doesn't agree with it. Seriously, this was the longest week of my life. I need my fix!
September 2, 2013 1:36 pm I'm gonna miss those muttonchops!!
September 2, 2013 10:34 am For me, this is so depressing. I saw on Twitter people freaking out and I had no idea why. The moment I saw this on the site, and the radical change of it in general, really put me in for a loop. I never thought this day was going to come or at least any time soon. I'm glad that there still will be a podcast but....it just an end to an era. But I learned on Twitter (and all who follows me know the epic tweeting I did yesterday) that I made friends with a TON of people. I've known so many great people, even from the first day I joined here around Summer 2008, that even if I can't discuss specific issues of comics on here I know I can talk to people on social media about it. Seriously though, I'm not a social person in real life so I wouldn't say I am outgoing. If it wasn't for this site I honestly don't know where I would be mentally right now if I didn't meet PraxJarvin (Brain), ComicBookChris (Chris), CMRohling (Christ...there are A LOT of Chris's on this site), gobo (Ryan), and probably another 50+ more people I could list. I've barely met all of you in person but I still think we are a close family thanks to this site. I hope you all feel the same way. I guess the last thing I should mention is: I'm Sorry. I'm sorry to Conor, Josh, Paul, Jimski, and Ron for being such a headache on this site. We (still) have a lot of differences, blocked twitter accounts, and haven't always had a nicest of conversations. So when I look back at my early posts on here I just find myself think 'Man I was such a douchebag'. Now with the site how it is now I feel terrible I couldn't really work my way into being a nicer person on here....I like to think I tried but I still feel like I owe a massive amount of apologies to everyone who runs this site. There's still the podcast so, if anything, I still want to hear what you guys think about comics so that'll never change despite our differences. So.....I guess this is goodbye? At least on here anyways. I'll see you all on Twitter in about 5 seconds.
August 30, 2013 8:58 pm Good lord. How is McKelvie not dead after doing pages like that? But it is wonderfully executed. There were so many great panels in Deadpool I'm surprised there isn't more on here. The two page spread of the snowy 'waste' pile from Weapon X was absolutely gorgeous with a great coloring scheme. Then there's the second to last page with Deadpool firing at the helicopter. Again, a great page with some wonderful 'lightning' by Bellaire. Also, no Bat-Cow?
August 30, 2013 8:56 pm So a Question series with Gabriel Hardman should be something that exists.
August 29, 2013 9:57 pm @Nightwing: Oh that's right, he was in that! Well it was a very long time ago since I've seen it in my defense. @Chris: Not to get totally off topic but I find the 'shitty' Crash to be a good film. (But not a Best Picture film). But I like Cronenberg and for some reason I haven't seen it yet. Netflix away!
