I wish I was smart enough to create an idea like Hit-Monkey. A monkey that’s a hitman!? How can I lose? I would be a millionare with this idea……Or at least make some interesting comics out of it.

With the final issue of this mini-series I’m left with the question: Did we really need an origin for this character? Or that, should we really expand on the origins. Cause to be honest the first one-shot to introduce this character was more then enough information we needed. I kept thinking this because, sadly as it is to say, this was the weakest of the three issues. It definitely made me feel like Daniel Way stretched this out a bit too much then he should have.

There are some good moments in this issue though. Bullseye was a good idea to have as an antagonist in this. Just put one psychopath up against an innocent (but deadly) monkey and you sold me. It is the stuff that don’t envolve Bullseye that bugged me. The idea of having the ghost of the assassin ‘train’ the monkey just makes this too heavy handed and boring to read. We get it, the monkey needs to avenge, we don’t need 22 pages to remind us.

The art by Dalibor Talajic has improved with every issue. As always, faces and anatomy are a bit off sometimes. There’s a character in here, that is suppose to be a male (and is addressed as such) but he is drawn to have HUGE….tracks of land. But the panel layouts are nicely done, the detail in each panels are pretty good, and the Monkey itself is a delight to see. The page where the beads lay on top of Bullseye is a great example on how talented Talajic can be.

So I’m a bit torn on this issue. I think there are some good moments in here, but then again there are some medicore things in here as well. At the end of the day, probably having a 3 issue mini wasn’t the best idea overall. But I still enjoy the idea of this character and hopefully Daniel Way can bring the thing back in the future. Maybe just be a foil for Deadpool in his series more then having it’s own separate titles.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good
