Grant Morrison never fails to amaze me. Especially when it comes to his ideas for villains.

In this issue we got a bunch of circus preformers trying to get at Mr. Toad and let me tell you something: it is very very weird. We got triplets who form a circle to fight anyone, an actual ‘Human Flame’, and a very large and feminate heavyset ballerina male. Yes….yes I am not joking that these are the villains the new Batman and Robin need to face. While that might not sound very interest at first; only Grant Morrison can make something like this work.

While there is a fantastic fight sequence in this, that is more for Frank Quitely praise then Morrison. What else we got in here is a fantastic, and probably the best use of Alfred in a very long time. His speech to keep Dick going was spot on and it works for a character like Dick. It seems like Alfred was made to be a father figure for Grayson, more so then he was for Bruce himself. Also the stuff with Daimen, I dont know man….in a lot of ways I agree with him and I’m really starting to like the character. He’s still a bratty kid, but in all honesty he is acting no more different then what Jason Todd was for Bruce. Finally I just like how much use Morrison is using on the Gordon for this issue. He doesn’t say much, but that’s because he doesnt know whether to believe this new Batman or not. It’s back to square one for this team and I think it’ll give off much more better stories then before.

Quite (heh, get it?) possibly this is the most beautiful comic to look at this year. Frank Quitely is back with a vengence and he is making every issue look better then the last. I love how he uses the structure of the panels to showcase the fight. It’s very rapid and quick, just like the fight, and it all looks so fluid. All the little details like the smoke flowing threw the building, to the walls being destroyed, even the lighting is fantastic in this comic. Normally I would complain a tiny bit about character designs. But I dont even care how freakish someone looks in this. They are suppose to look creepy or freakish and I love Prof. Pyg. Love him to death.

It’s only two issues but I dare say this might be the best comic to come out this year. It’s a great action packed series but it has more then enough of Morrison’s writing style to make it so much more then an action title. I love this book so much that I would wait for Quitely to do all 12 issues. I dont care how long it takes, it’s the same process for All Star Superman. The quality of a book like this makes up for any lateness or critcism.
