I’ve never been a fan of animals when I was a kid. Sure, I enjoy Planet Earth and the like now; but when I was nine it never appealed to me. Maybe it was because of Disney World. Cause I remember when we went on the ‘safari’ ride I was just bored to tears. It probably shaped my opinion on wildlife to this day. So what was I on about? Oh yes! The kids from the Future Foundation’s own safari trip…

What struck me most about this issue was the art by Gabriel Hernandez Walta. Never heard of him before and looking at his previous work it is titles I would never considering buy. (Although now I’ll reconsider if it is all like this issue.) It’s a painted style that takes a bit to get used to but once you do get used to it, you want to see more of it. Maybe he was chosen to do this because of the setting; cause this feels like an art book about Africa. The flora, the wildlife, the people that inhabit them (not the FF, I mean the tribes) all look so realistic. The colors by Cris Peter also add to the realism and painted look of the issue. I would love to see more of his work in the near future if it works within his style.

This is just another solid issue by Hickman. It’s a funny book but it gives us more reason to like the kids. I find it weird how Hickman keeps adding to the team considering he’s leaving soon. But how can I complaining when he keeps bringing out issues like this? Even with a fill in artist this series just keeps getting intriguing with each passing month. It’s so sad to think that Hickman is going to leave this series at the height of his creativity. If the rumors are true on who is taking over this series once he leaves….I’ll be heading for the hills that’s for sure.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Good review and ditto. Not a Fraction fan either.
