I want to thank Mr. Snyder for teaching me how to escape certain death when tripwires are involved.

For this particular issue we get insight into Bruce as a kid and also more badassary on why Batman is badass. (Like you needed more proof at this stage of your life) While on some level the idea of Bruce going this far into detective mode at such an early age is far fetched; Snyder made it seem believable enough for me not to really care. Kids are very impressionable and it would make sense Bruce would do anything to capture the people who killed his parents. I do like it that the overall flashback lead to something a bit mundane but ended up being a horrible experience in the long run. It shows, once again, that Bruce is ready for anything thanks in no part by being one of the most anal people on the planet.

The art by Greg Capullo continues to entertain and I like it that his style changes during the flashbacks. Maybe it’s just me but I did get a sort of ‘Darwyn Cooke’ vibe to some of the pages. The eyes in particular remind me of what you would see in a Cooke comic. But then you get pages like Batman escaping a burning building or a fucking labyrinth (who doesn’t love them!?) and you see just how talented the guy is on his own rights.

This is just more proof on why not only Batman is the most prepared superhero in all of comics but why Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are the best Bat-team since Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle.

  1. They may be Grant and Brefogle 2.0. Great comparison. An enjoyable run so far.
