I’m starting to wonder just how much the spontaneous expansion of Gillen’s run has effected this series. This was a fun issue for the most part, but another part of me thinks something is missing…..

Mainly the action. Let’s be honest, if Thor is going to fight through Hell to save his people, we should see some demon heads roll. But that’s not Gillen is doing, and instead he’s giving us more of a ‘dramatic’ look at how an epic fight goes down. I love the idea of Mephisto having some sort of…..scribe skeleton….recount what is going on in the issue. The problem is that, with artists like Elson or Braithwaite I would expect to see some action. Outside from a few shiny lights, and a good riddle joke early on; nothing really stood out in this issue. This isn’t badly written mind you, and I hate to use the word ‘boring’ because I find that a bit too harsh. But there is just something not right about this issue (and mainly this arc) as a whole.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. Agreed on all points. It does seems like this arc could have been much shorter (and would have benefited with more action and less exposition) but was unfortunately extended due to Fraction delays.  That said, can’t wait for 615 and the new creative team. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what Fraction and Ferry bring to Thor mythos, and the fact that they’re going for a Kirby-esque take only raises my excitement. Luckily, we’ve got only 2 weeks until 614…
