Everyone seems to love this book, and rightfully so. I mean you got a great writer on board, the art looks simply amazing, and Marvel actually did a successful job in reviving a C-List hero into a major one. Then why didnt I pick this series up when it first came out? Well I think even with good writing and art, this series really got noticed because of Secret Invasion. Not like I was avoiding this because of the event (hell I’m still picking up GOTG, Black Panther, and Nova here people) But I wanted to wait and see what Cornell could do with this book without an event helping him out.

The result? It’s a start, it’s a set up issue for things to come, and more importantly: I was entertained by it. Basically it’s just a recapping of events from the first arc as we see all the members live their lifes after the invasion. I do love Captain Britain, he’s a character that is totally worth reading in any form. It’s weird not to see any adaptations on him in any other media, he could totally work in today’s Marvel film franchise. Plus we get the new recruitment, Blade, who I’m not a big fan of, but then again it doesnt seem like Marvel is either. But it’s nice Cornell is bringing in yet another C-list superhero and hopefully his role on the team is more then just hating Spitfire.

This was pretty enjoyable and hopefully Cornell can make this team work. So many times a writer gets involved with a group of heroes, makes them revelent and exciting, and only to get cancelled a couple of months later. But this book is like the hottest thing right now, so I think we’ll be seeing this team for a long time. Oh and btw: I know I just said Punisher MAX’s ending this week was f’d up, but damn I didnt see this last page coming!

  1. The cover sort of misrepresents things, doesn’t it?

Maybe we’re to understand that this is how Blade’s paranoid mind sees the situation.

    "Oh no! Spitfire!!!"

  2. @Aero: Yeah I didnt pick that up but I totally see it now. The cover basically is a flip-flop of what actually happens in the issue…..and boy that just looked like a bloody mess. How on earth is Cornell gonna reverse that last page for the next issue?

  3. 1. Who’s the C-list hero? Captain Britain? Pete Wisdom?

    2. Cornell reverses that in the same way you both have mentioned – it’s what happens in Blade’s mind.

  4. @coltrane: How about everyone on that team are C list heroes? Seriously before this title, when did you think of Captain Britain, Spitfire, Black Knight, and Blade on the same levels as Cap or Iron Man?

Just like Incredible Herc, Marvel has made practically an unknown superhero a recognizable name again.

  5. Maybe it’s just an error on the cover, but how did Blade get his hand back?

  6. @NextChampion – LOL. You’re right. None of the team members were leaders in the Marvel U. Maybe Black Knight was pretty well-known, and Captain Britain is a huge star in the UK, but the rest of these guys are not superstars.

  7. @ MikeFarley.  the book tells you about his hand.  you must have missed it.  there is a panal where blade is complaining about the rain messing up his robotic hand.  dont remmember if he says it or thinks it.  i dont feel like opening it up, but its there.
