Hey guys I hope you dont mind but this is actually a full review of the whole mini. I dont think anyone actually posted up the paperback on the site….or I’ve done 100’s of searches and I still cant find it.

The Runaways/Young Avengers seemed to have gotten hyped a lot before and during the Invasion. They were on one of the covers for the main series with Nick Fury. Sadly it was false marketing as they barely had any big moments in the main series. So this trade is suppose to make the two teams come together and be somewhat relevent to this event. What I can say about this series overall that it isnt bad….it’s just not really memorable. A problem with this mini, and it might be more on me then Yost as the writer on this….there’s very little character development in here, or really any emotional reason to root for these young heroes. Yost is partially to blame for that, but then again he only had 3 issues to work with here and a ton of characters. But it’s a little bit of my fault as well because….I’ve never read Runaways or Young Avengers before. So going in I had no idea who the characters were or what was going on with each side.

Again it’s like 50/50 on this problem. I should’ve have looked into more of these characters before reading…or at least go on wikipedia to get the gist of each character. But Yost should’ve tried to get a good looking into some of these heroes during mini. I mean he does a good job with Hulking and the other Skrull hero….but overall I just didnt care for any of the other characters.

What I do recommend for this series was the art by Takeshi Miyazawa. Dont ask me why, but I love manga art. The facial expressions are really well done; you can definitely tell what each character is emotioning in each panel. The action can be a bit confusing at times; and the anatomy is a bit off as well. But overall I like the style of art used and the coloring was also top notch.

This was just a pretty average mini and to be honest….did this really have to be made? What was going to come out of this story that would change the characters forever? It’s a shame that this mini was clearly released just for Marvel to get more money….If maybe these characters were actually used as promised with the promotional artwork. These characters could be more revelent then they actually are. As for now, they are in the sea of medicority that is C level titles at Marvel.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. I actually think that the Runaways/Young Avnegers minis that seem to accompany every big event are actually intended to keep the YA brand in front of readers so that they don’t completely forget about them.  I agree that this wasn’t the finest YA story, and I’ve already forgotten how it ended.
