Let me get this one thing clear: I picked this series up in issues only because of Ash. For some reason Ash from the Evil Dead series is written well for comics. Hell look at Army of Darkness vs Marvel Zombies? Waste of a mini? Could’ve been if it wasnt for the great one-liners by Ash and the art for the book. So looking in to this series I thought to myself: “Okay Freddy vs Jason was a pretty crappy film, but hey it could really be good with this mini if Ash is written well here’.

Overall this was pretty good for the most part, but close to being tiresome to read. My cliffnotes for the plot is that: once again Ash is trying to destroy the Necronomicon. But when he goes to the town where Elm street lies, Freddy is planning on being ressurected to try and get the book for himself. Somehow Jason gets involved, blah blah blah….Pretty generic plot when you go right down to it. The story isnt the best there is, but like I hoped, there is good humor in here. Whether it’s Ash making one-liners to Jason or Freddy just smacking around Ash, there is some good here in this trade. Plus the gore is pretty good, if your looking for that in a horror book.

It’s not a classic, I’m sure it wont be highly regarded as a great series. But I think they tried to do a crossover some people really want to see and I think it works here. If this was a film I’d be pretty pissed because if FVJ was any indication….Not even the great Bruce Campbell could save this. But it’s a nice little read if it ever goes into library format or you see it at a bargin bin at your LCS.
