Sam Kieth has become like, a demi god for DC. His work on the Lobo mini has made me become a huge fan of his again. He brings an interesting dynamic to the art side of comics by being so radical. It frustrates some, but I love it how he changes his art style through out the book. Sort of like how J.H. Williams III changes styles in the Batwoman book, but this is much more radical.

His run on this title is a very good start. Every single page of this is just pure, artistic gold. You open the comic with such an awesome, but very surreal image of Batman and it hooks me right in. Page after page is just different designs of Batman and different ways of laying out the panels, The section of Batman spying on the Social Worker so reminds me of the way Kelley Jones draws Batman, but a little tighter with the lines. The cape just flowing on the building is just amazing to look at. I also like how Kieth does his own sound effects without the use of a letterer. Batman coughing or a monster disappearing in a puff of smoke is just pure Sam Kieth. No one else can do that the way he does it.

Now on the story……Well it’s obvious we should remember Kieth as an artist and not a writer. It isn’t bad, but it certainly won’t win any words. He has a good voice down for Batman and Gordon but you could find a lot of the same characterizations in other, medicore Batman stories.

Overall I quite enjoyed this first issue of Kieth’s Confidential run. Purely more on the art but still, it is very good. I’m not sure how most people feel on his take on a art level but it is something everyone should try once. I have a very good feeling more people will come out loving his style and enjoy his radical designs. Here’s to more Sam Kieth goodness next month.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
