Never before have I enjoyed a series more then this. Never before have I wanted a series to succeed like this. Never before have I given a POTW in rapid succession like this. Sweet Tooth has been one of the best series to come out PERIOD. Not in terms of company, but as an overall aspect. In fact I can’t think of a comic book as perfect as this, it’s just that good.

It’s great to see a look at Jepperd now cause we need to know more about him. We get just enough info just to learn what type of man he was before the outbreak. Lemire brings back his history of hockey into the fold and it totally work for a guy like Jepperd. By the time we get to the end of the comic, it had me once again. Those two pages of him just breaking down and…..well I won’t spoil it for you but Lemire humanizes Jepperd him in just a small space of time.

Not to say the stuff with Sweet Tooth was bad, it was just as fantastic to read. It is creepy as hell to read and see what is going on in this pen Gus is in. Those other mutants are scary as hell and I’m glad to see that Gus isn’t as horribly mutated as we thought. He’s like a saint compared to these guys. But these small looks at his predictament sets up the rest of the arc. It’s going to be a bad series of events for Gus, whether he gets out of it or not. Also judging from the ‘preview’ of the last issue, it is only going to get worse.

What else can I say about the art that hasn’t been said. Lemire is like a god at making simple things look so complex. Look at the page of Jepperd in the locker room, not much to see at first, continue to look on and you’ll see a wealth of detail in the page. It’s like that for every panel, and almost everything has something to make it stand out. Again when you get to the final two pages of this, Lemire hooked me in. He lays it out perfectly and when we get to the final page, it’s just leaves you with goosebumps.

Perfect issue yet again for Lemire. What was a questionable series in the beginning has now turned into my most looked forward to book of the month. Jeff Lemire (and Jose Villarrubia and…okay everyone else!) has made this Vertigo’s best series. No question about it, and if we got rid of the company tie ins, it could be the best comic on the stands period. Don’t wait for trade and miss out what has been a great read. You’re only hurting yourself by waiting for this series more then you should.
