It really is hard to find new ways to talk about a book you love. Sweet Tooth is one of several books I look forward with reading but dread to review. Cause unless Jeff Lemire comes up with something spectacular with the art it’s usually a solid four star book. However, and as negative as this sounds, it is not hard to find things to nitpick or frown a little when it comes with this title.

The only thing that stood at for me was just how fast this read. Of course all of these issues read at a pretty brisk pace but this time it felt different. Maybe because this issue had not only a preview ad for Vertigo’s new titles AND a two page preview of one of them. Cause when you hold the issue, it feels big don’t ya think? But then you read it and suddenly—POOF! It’s over.

There’s nothing wrong with the issue at all on a technical level. Jeff Lemire’s art is beautiful as always and the tension is really ratcheting inside the damn. (Although the side story now with Jepperd feels a bit forced) But it reads all too quickly for me to enjoy it. Maybe that’s more on me then what’s in the book but considering everything else this week took a long time it kinda pales in comparison for me.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good
