Why is Dini so good at writing Batman? For sixteen years (!) Dini has written some of the best interpretations of the dark knight in animation and comic form. Could it be that he just knows how Batman will interact with his friends and enemies? Does he make a good mystery and have some great ‘what the hell?’ moments? Or can he just write one-shot villians and still make them threatening in a small issue? It’s all of that and a lot more that is served for an article by the ifanboys…..Conor I’m looking at you….

Dini has just made Dectective Comics a great source of Batman mysteries. This arc is no different, as he is trying to make Hush a more relevant villian in the DCU. It’s a hard feat, cause even at the end of a good run by Loeb, not even his creation really worked in the end. But Dini is trying to add more emotional depth for the reasoning of Hush’s anger towards Batman. Normally I dont like it when they change Bruce’s childhood to add certain elements for the present…But Dini made it work for his relationship with Zatanna so it’s not so bad here.

A lot of people seem to state that this ‘tie-in’ of R.I.P is much better then the actual event. Well first, there is barely any traces of Morrison’s brilliant run on that title so far. Two, it just depends on what type of reader you are. I’m sure anyone can read either title, but if you just want a more straight forward Batman mystery/thriller…This, yet another, fantastic Dini arc on Dectective Comics will give you the Batman you want.

  1. I agree.  This is an enjoyable issue, and it’s nice to see Dini bringing some relevance to Hush.  They should take the R.I.P. banner off of it…it doesn’t have anything to do with it, which is just fine.
