Here’s an idea for DC Comics:

Make a ‘Batman/Aquaman’ team up series. Cause let’s be honest: Batman and Aquaman talking to each other has been the best thing about this ‘Throne of Atlantis’ crossover.

There is a lot that happens in this particular issue but what got me was Batman (of course). I think Geoff Johns has a great voice for Bruce and clearly the only person that has anything in common with him is Aquaman. Their sequences also bring about the big twists for the arc and for the Aquaman series in general so I had much more interest in that. The other moments involving Cyborg was more of the same (i.e. boring) and clearly Johns has very little idea on what to do with him. It’s nice to see Johns go back to Hawkman and some of the other JLA members but it comes with really clunky dialogue. This might be Element Woman’s first time working for the JLA but I doubt she’d be saying that during a huge battle.

I am still unsure about Paul Pelletier and I’m not 100% sure why. His art is a bit cartoony and reminds me a lot like Chris Sprouse (of Tom Strong fame). He definitely has a good handle on Aquaman so maybe once this crossover ends I’ll get a better handle on him. But other characters like Batman, Cyborg, and even Hawkman look really good. But his designs for ‘The Others’ look way too muscular from before and since they’re used a lot in this issue it took me out of it slightly. There are two great double page spreads though and it more than makes up for some of the iffy designs from before.

This is such an improvement from the last installment in Justice League. There are some nice twists in the storytelling here and once again Geoff Johns proves Batman & Aquaman are meant for each other. That doesn’t make the issue perfect though as there are some pretty iffy dialogue throughout the issue. While Paul Pelletier isn’t perfect, his pencils are growing on me and his double page spreads really impressed me here. I still think this series has some legs with this creative team but I really can’t tell you if it can be sustained until this crossover finally ends.
