Every issue that comes out of either Green Lantern series before ‘Blackest Night’ is like marching in the desert. You feel like your getting close to something, but you still got a ways to go before hitting anything.

Having said all that, man this was a great issue for the Corps. Tomasi man, I dont know, I think he really should be trying bigger titles now. Not that I want him off this series by any means, just that if he can write a story with a crap load of characters in each issue….Why not let him try JSA or JSA? This plot is moving forward in a bunch of different directions. We got Kilowog/Gardner and others ready to fight the jailbreak, Sodam/Arisia trying to rescue the Daximites, and a great last page reveal of someone we’ve been waiting for on this title….but I wont ruin the surprise.

I think what Tomasi is great at with this title; is giving a distinct voice and personality to everyone in this. Even the most minor characters (like the Sinestro members) have something unique about them. It’s like he writes them as they have been around awhile and not just introduced for the sake of the story. I actually cared a bit more about Sodam in this issue then last. He came off a bit whiny in the last issue but now he seems to be a bit more clear headed and a good leader. Considering we now see that Sodam was right about his dad, his whining is a bit justified from previous. Oh and for a character with no tounge, Tomasi can sure make that guy creepier even without him speaking.

Gleason as an artist…..I think my theory that he is off in every other issue seems to be correct. Cause what was a medicore looking issue last week, we got some great art by him this week. I dont understand it but his pencils look 100x better then last issue. His faces are definitely on model for most of the issue (a few weird moments with Sodam but that is to be expected for me) and some great panel layouts on fight sequences. That’s what Gleason is best in my eyes, fight scenes and creature designs. Seriously, probably some of the best creatures I’ve seen in this title….and that’s saying something. A big fucking snake, and a fantastic robot design are just some of the highlights by Gleason this week.

So I think I understand why this has been the best B title in any company for the longest time. Great characterization, great fight scenes, fantastic creature designs, and overall the creators just seem to love what they do for a living. I can tell Tomasi and Gleason have fun writing and drawing this series issue in and out. All of these plot points Tomasi is giving us is certainly going to give us some huge fights in the upcoming issues. The shit is literally so close to hitting the fan with this series, and we still havent come close yet to starting Blackest Night. Great stuff.

Story: 5 - Excellent

  1. tomasi writing the sinestro corps lackeys was very fun.

  2. Hmm. It’s like marching in the desert searching for the black man. A kid will pop up and distract you along the way.

    When will Sodam hang?
