It seems like now that we’re on the last stretch of this series, I’m loving it more then usual. We only have three issues left to go now and I have no idea what is going to happen. How Jeff Lemire can hold all of his cards and draw each issue is a mystery to me. He must be exhausted doing all of this comics for DC considering only a few years ago Sweet Tooth was his only baby.

Even with all of this being said, not a whole lot really happens here. Like usual, the issue reads a little bit fast and obviously this series will read a lot better in one chunk then in issues. But we do get a lot of nice moments between the characters since this is a lull before the inevitable blood bath. I do wish we had more of the Singh craziness because the mystical elements are sort of lacking in this issue. Also, while Bobby is spared for now in this series we do have a death here. And Lemire is a bastard for killing he/she/it.

The art in this issue is also a little bit strange. Not bad, but there were some questionable moments in here. Of course Lemire has always been experimental with this series and this issue is no different. The two straight double page spreads of showing a character in the middle looked fantastic. Gus and Jepperd look very different in these spreads, they actually have a more painted feel to them then what we normally get in this series. But there are some panel layouts in here that didn’t seem to gel for me. One in particular has Jepperd’s face split up and I don’t quite get why. Stuff like that was noticeable but for the most part this is a good looking issue as always with this series.

Two issues into this final arc and both have been picks of the week for me. With the combination of some heartfelt moments, a real mystery on what Lemire plans for the finale, and some gorgeous art as always; this arc has so far been top notch. It looks like the next issue of two are going to be violent and more then likely deary as hell. No matter how they read, I’m in for the final countdown but hey….maybe I’ll be back? (Sorry I tried to do a Europe reference here but that didn’t work did it?)
