'Last Days of Gotham'?

How about, 'Introduction to a bizarre new character and yet another Nightwing/Two-Face plot'

Denny O'Neil, arguably one of the greatest writers in the comic industry, is back to write a two part Batman story. Taking place probably days after RIP (or if my theory is right, after Final Crisis) it has this mobster dressing up as Two-Face, wrecking havoc on some people. Then Nightwing comes in, thinking it's the real Two-Face and gets caught up in a fire....Yes that description of the plot is weak at best for me, but the story feels weak here as well. We're shoehorned by O'Neil on this introduction to a new(?) character of Millicent Mayne in the beginning and the plot gets haphazardly thrown into a Nightwing tale. I guess this Mayne girl is the narrator for the tale, but really it makes no sense on why we're focusing on the character who I never heard of or seen until now. If this is the 'Last Days of Gotham', you would think it would focus on ALL of Gotham and not just a chop-shop in the middle of the city.

The art by Guillem March is a treat in some ways, but a bore in others. His women are beautiful, almost close to cheesecake levels, but still beautiful. The first couple of pages with the building collapsing looked great. March's faces, however, are sometimes a problem. Grayson looks generatic and has no real distinct personality until he wears the costume, Oracle looks like Emma Frost for some reason, and his take on Two-Face is really medicore at best. Again there is some great detail in here, like the building collapsing or Nightwing breaking into the chop-shop; but overall it's a bit jumbled at best.

This is a two part story and I'm hoping more things happen. Cause quite honestly, I wasnt all that impressed by this. O'Neil does not do comics on a regular basis so it's always interesting to see him jump right back into the industry and write a fairly decent story. But that's what this issue was; decent, run of the mill, boring at times. Again, for a two part mini called 'Last Days of Gotham', I was expecting more of a look into the city of Gotham itself to see what has happenend without Batman. Instead I get an issue with Nightwing, which could've been in the titled series itself, and a weird introduction to an old or new character....So let's hope the next part is better.
