You sit back in your chair, and wonder how some comics ever got made. Was it the writer pushing his work to be made? Was it the company that some guy in a suit tell someone what to do? Did a company get an artist for themselves and want to whore him/her out for profit? Well I can tell you that back even in the 70’s, no one was clamoring for a foul mouth, cigar smoking Duck.

Steve Gerbers legendary (which is funny to think for a moment) character has weirdly enough got himself an omnibus. All 33 issues of the self-titled series and a few extra’s from titles like Swamp Thing and Marvel Team-Up (god only knows who wanted a team up of Howard and Spider-Man is anyone’s guess.). Now did this need an omnibus? Probably not….I would’ve went with a standard Hardcover or TPB. But we do have some good artists on this book though. Some did old Iron Man issues, or did the legendary ‘Demon in a Bottle’ run; hell we even got legendary ‘How to draw the Marvel Comics Way’ artist John Buscema on some issues!

Listen, I’ve always liked Howard, I dont know the hell why but I do. This comic was very funny, and still is sorta revelent in terms of our government and presidency. It’s still fun reading a duck trying to get into the oval office. Plus for a time, people did like this character and he even got himself a film. It blowed more then Batman and Robin, but hey….if George Lucas (of all people) didnt try this film then maybe Marvel wouldnt dedicate itself to make much better adaptations for the big screen.

Although I know a lot of people on here to this day dont know who or what Howard the Duck is….All you need to know he’s a kick ass smoking duck who tried to run for president in the 1970’s. If that doesnt at least catch your eye to flip threw this book, I’ll be amazed.

Vote for Howard in 2008!
