And so the little, four issue mini series by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Pitarra ends. Not so much in a bang, but in a disappointing whimper. Right from the second issue it was easy to tell that Hickman didn’t really bother to tell a genuine story. This issue is no different with the ending being ultimately confusing more then anything else. Well I sorta get what the point of this issue ends on, but it doesn’t feel like it was earned. I still have no idea who any of these characters were and most of them were underused as well.

The art by Pitarra is still very solid though. There is a great amount of detail in each page from the individual wrinkles on a person’s face to the massive spaceship interior. If this mini did anything it showed just how great of a talent Pitarra is and hopefully he’ll get a lot more work down the road. The coloring though has been a bit of an issue this mini and it’s no different here either. It makes each panel look so muddy that eyes are almost covered in a freak, pinkish tone. While the coloring is unfortunate, it still is the high point of an underwhelming mini. Maybe the next creator own project by Hickman ‘Feel Better Now’ will be better.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

Comments

  1. Glad I didn’t get this or issue 3. I sort of forgot about it … now I won’t have to go back and get them.

  2. I bought the first three, and I will probably buy the last issue for some closure to the store, but I am kind of disappointed hear about this end
