I’m not used to a major event continuing in a different comic. Sure it has happened before but in my lifetime as a comic book reader I’ve never seen it. It’s not like you were force to read Amazing Spider-Man during Civil War, or read JSA while Final Crisis is happening. Here the actual story is progressing from Blackest Night #3 to Green Lantern #46. It can’t be that big of a problem since Geoff Johns is killing it right now on this title.

We start the issue with planet Zamaron being under attack from both Sinestro and Black Lanterns. Then suddenly Hal and Indigo comes storming in and saves both Sinestro and Carol. As always Johns is great at interactions here, anytime we see Hal and Sinestro banter it’s a good thing. I also like how understanding Jordan is with Carol; cause at this point her being a Star Shappire makes as much sense as the dead rising. Then we get to the meat of the issue: Mongul vs Sinestro. This is a battle I think we’ve all been looking forward too since Mongul took control in the pages of Green Lantern Corps. While Johns does make this tussle a good one, it did seem a bit rushed considering how long it took to get these two together. It would’ve been nice to see this fight occur before Blackest Night came out, but either way I enjoyed the fight.

Doug Mahnke is the savor of this title. Before Blackest Night hit the title suffered from medicore artwork. (One time I will not be in favor of a Tan in this case) Ever since he came on this title has been one fantastic issue after another. His fight sequences are a sight to behold and it really feels like damage is being done. There’s also great little touches like the backgrounds are active or buildings are rich with detailed. The two page spread towards the end of this was beautiful and brutal at the same time. Heaven. If there is only one problem I had was that Sinestro’s face seemed to be morphing from time to time. Other characters look fine but his Sinestro never seem to have one constant face. Still it is a great looking comic.

It has been a great idea to expand the story of Blackest Night into the Green Lantern title. GLC is working on their own problems so we can still see Hal Jordan’s adventure in two seperate titles. Ever since Blackest Night and Doug Mahnke has hit this title, it’s been one of the best titles to come out for DC. It’s only been three issues with Green Lantern on tie-ins, but it still is safe to say this is a event.
