This has been a very enjoyable Noir mini by Frank Tieri. It’s not going to set the world on fire but in terms of some of the medicore to bad Noir stories I’ve read so far; this is a shining example of how to do a Noir book.

Tieri does some crazy shit in this. From fighting Tigers to a transsexual Russian…..There certainly isn’t a waste of crazy ideas in this. What I also like about this issue, and much of the mini, is that it never felt like it was out of place. There isn’t a sentence or saying that makes it feel like the writer doesn’t know how to write the lingo. Tieri must have had a time machine and studied the speech of many people from the 1930s. At least that’s the most sensible thing to think of, because the speech in this is pretty accurate.

Art duties got changed around a bit with Acezta being replaced with Antonio Fuso for some reason. To be honest I didn’t really notice that big of a change. That could be because Filardi’s coloring has stayed consistant for four issues (like how even with Captain America art changes, the colorist stays the same). Great uses of red and green by the way, I’m sure it’s not ment to envoke the holidays though. (That would be pretty sick if it was) Overall it was a good looking issue even with a quick art change.

Again this has been a fun mini and Tieri has told me (ifanboy exclusive!!) that a sequel is ‘not impossible’. So okay that isn’t a yes or no……But considering how Tieri ends this on hinting on what Castelione might do in the future. I would certainly would love to see more of the Noir-ish Punisher running around. A great mini when this comes out in trade for anyone interested.
