I’m on a Punisher high right now, so maybe that’s why it’s crazy for me to make this issue my POTW.

Seriously I’ve read a bunch of Punisher MAX stories catching up on the greatest run by Garth Ennis. I’ve been sorta down on this series, somewhat, since he left at issue #60. The stuff by Hurwitz has been fun, but nothing thats blown my mind. Well after picking this issue up, reading it, and making it my POTW; I can say without a shadow of a doubt: This MAX series will still continue to be one of the best Marvel titles put out today.

Why did this issue make me love this series all over again? Because like Ennis, Hurwitz knows how to write Frank Castle. We see Castle try and commit suicide for apparently killing a small girl. His inner turmoil is laid out perfectly on the pages, both outside and inside the man. The best line in this issue sums up how troubled the man truely is:

‘I have become what I hate the most. I have become my enemy. I must be punished.’

I wont ruin what happens after that line because it would ruin how Castle goes back from the brink of suicide. All you need to know that this is the Punisher book your looking for when it comes to violence and emotional impact. This is everything a Punisher book should be, and we still have two more issues left of this run by Hurwitz. Definitely pick this up at your LCS, not just read threw it, buy it. Your missing out on such a great book if you dont get it.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
