My pick this week is 'Ultimate Comics Avengers #1' and I must say....

No wait my pick is Blackest Night #2. Sorry about that, I was channeling someone else there for a second. (Ha ha, funny commentary).

It's pretty safe to say that Blackest Night has turned into 'Most fucked up event ever'. Some of the bloodshed in this is really gory, the zombies are creepy as hell, and seeing heroes turn into black lanterns are also scary as hell. I mean Geoff Johns made the Spectre into a black lantern! If your reading this review and has no idea who the Spectre is then let me fill you in:

A) He has a good history with Hal Jordan.

B) He kills people for judgment if they do something wrong. So this option should really be a 'holy shit' moment for anyone involved.

Most of this issue is just off the wall and totally schizo. We jump from one place to the next as the heroes are quickly losing at amazing speeds. Hal and Barry are still dealing with J'onn; Deadman is freaking out like a child losing his ice cream; Spectre and his pals have been ambushed by William Hand; and Mera is having the worst family reunion ever. It all has some great diaologue with the zombies trying to plee to their family to get on with it. Or it has some nice witty jokes, which mostly deals anything with Hal and Barry talking. But the tone is really depressing and it's even more depressing to think that the worst hasn't even happen yet. If all of this is going down and the big boss hasn't shown up yet; then we better pray for our heroes.

Oh and quick note which people might miss. Apparently Don Hall (who is Dove from a version of 'Hawk and Dove') can't become a Black Lantern. Because he's 'at rest'. What does that mean? Is it because he's died only once and never came back? Is that the black lanterns only weakness? Hmm...

Basically all you need to do is go to the two page spread of Spectre as a Black Lantern. If you don't look at it in awe and your jaw doesn't drop then you aren't marveling at the work of Ivan Reis. This is a hetic issue and Reis is able to handle it like a pro. It all looks so damn gorgeous but at the same time scary as hell to look at. If these two issues alone doesn't get him an Eisner win then I will go ape on the judges.

It's only issue two but I can't get enough of Blackest Night. Geoff Johns has wrote himself a classic and we're only 1/4th done of the main event. If the pace keeps going like this then I will personally send Geoff Johns a bed of roses and a new car. That's how much I love this event. Oh and apparently we're gonna see the Black Lantern Justice League next issue....Awesome.
