I love this series, I absolutely love this.

I’m a huge Stephen King fan, but I must admit; I never heard of Dark Tower when I first got into him. It wasnt really into the first mini-series (Gunslinger Born) that I heard about this ‘magnum opus’ by King. After reading the mini-series, and then all seven novels; I’ve grown to love this wonderful and inventive series by King.

Now Peter David, mini god of comics, wrote both of these mini-series and I see no difference. Especially in this mini, it reads like the original King books and David just has the characters down so well. It feels like a different world, but it has the quality of ours very subtily. He adds some good humor when he needs too and his action sequences are great. But I love his take on Marten Broadcloak (Randall Flagg) and The Crimson King are just top notch. He also makes The Gunslinger Roland a character rich with charisma but is filled with problems as well.

The art, oh my god the art in this….Jae Lee is known for too Marvel Knight titles: Inhumans and The Sentry. The art in those are great, but in these Dark Tower books; especially in this one: Might be the best art ever put on a comic period. Now this might sound ridiculous coming from a huge Alex Ross fan, but Jae Lee adds so much realism and smooth detail lines in his art…Every panel or page in this book could be put up on a poster, that’s how good they are. Just look at the cover on this book, that’s all you need to look at to see how great the art is.

So in short, this is one of the best adaptations ever made in any form. Peter David, Jae Lee, Marvel, and others; have brought even more depth into the world that Stephen King has been apart of for over 20 years. It would be the saddest thing in the world for anyone not picking both of these mini’s up. They both read right into the original novels and all together you would be reading the grand daddy of all prose stories.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
