Bongo Comics seems to be a forgotten child of the comic industry. It seems to be ignored a lot cause…well it only does Simpsons and Futurama comics. But there are indie publishers who focus on one type of gimmick in terms of their comic line. So why not focus on Bongo comics just for a little bit?

Futurama is one of my favorite shows. Now that the fourth (and most likely final) DVD film there’s only one way to keep my Futurama binge going….reading the comic! This issue is a rarity, in which that an actual writer of the series helped out on the issue. That usually doesn’t happen in this or Simpsons comics so it’s interesting to see if a TV writer can do a comic book in any different way. The story focuses on Fry’s mummified dog (Seymour) as he is kidnapped by a race of aliens (who shockingly resemble dogs). This means, of course, very lame puns about dogs and anything dog-like. While there are some bad jokes thrown in; this feels very much like the show. What I like it how many misleads there are in this comic. Just when you think the Professor has a heart attack; it’s actually his heart made of pickles that got attacked. Also a good amount of technology thrown in which, comedy or not, always makes me interested in anything futuristic.

It’s a little hard to review a comic like this. Basically you are kinda reviewing an episode of the show. But if you are a fan of the series I would definitely give it a shot. Sure the actualy writers of the series don’t really do the comics; but it feels so close to the show it doesnt make much of a difference. If this comic peaks your interest in Bongo Comics, I definitely give the rest of their comics a try. In an age where ‘The Simpsons’ have aged like moldy cheese…you can definitely find more humor in their self-titled comics then the original series.
