Here's an update for the: 'Only One Deadpool Title Please' movement. (Or O.O.D.T.P.) Merc with a Mouth is ending it's run earlier then you expected! So now we're down to 3 Deadpool ongoing. This movement is working!
Anyways with the issue at hand, even as a huge fan of this title I have to say something negative. This is a bit of a letdown in terms of a 'finale' for this arc. Daniel Way writes some good jokes in this. I love the reveal with Wilson trying to pretend he's Spidey. Like that would ever work and it's more of the 'idea' of what Wilson did with Hit-Monkey then anything else. Plus I think Way does have a good voice for Parker. Sure he isn't the comic relief, but you can't tell me Wilson needs to be the straightman. It wouldn't work, so this issue hasn't bother me with the way Spider-Man has been handled.
I think my big problem with this issue is that....it just ends. Literally there is no real 'joke', or dramatic moment, or anything to warrent this as an ending. Way just decides to drop the entire Hit-Monkey idea and him teaming up with Spidey. He leads us into a question of what the hell Deadpool really wants in life....But it isn't an ending. It's like a cartoon where the first five minutes is the best thing you've ever seen. Then the last minute rolls in and BOOM! Everything falls flat. It's not much of a dealbreaker, this is still a good issue to read. Just that Way just didn't seem to write a good conclusion to this whole arc.
It's a shame because, including the Hit-Monkey one shot, this has been a fun arc. Plus it has had some good pencils done by Barberi. He does seem to have a style of his own and not just be a 'clone' of Paco Medina. The beginning of this issue did have some promise and there were some good jokes in this. It's just that the last 5-6 pages were just a real let down. When we see how Way ended his arcs for the X-Men story, or the Bullseye one, this definitely seemed to have a quick ending. The only solace is that Hit-Monkey is still alive and he can be a villain to come in the future. As long as Way has his hands on that idea, then maybe a sequel to this fight is what we need to improve on this ending.
