Alright, well after reading ‘Marvel vs DC’ I was hoping that it would be one of the best crossover events ever. Seriously, how can you mess up a team up of the two biggest comic book companies in the world? Sadly…..they did mess it up and all I read was a jumbled up mess of cosmic main plot and a flimsy accuse to have  Hulk vs Superman brawl or Wolverine vs Lobo. After reading about this most recent team (recent being 5 years ago) up….I was praying the two companies wouldnt screw this up either.

Geez….Why is it so hard to do this? I mean seriously, do we need to have some garbled mess about two cosmic figures trying to mix these universes? It makes the story too  aconvoluted and pretty much ignores the idea that these two universes are duking each other. Now there are some nice moments here; like Batman and Captain America being the smartest men in the group. Or Thor just trying to beat the crap out of Superman. In fact I like this version of Thor, almost feels like the Ultimate version in some ways (cocky I mean). But again this villain ruins the story cause I just dont care at the end of the day about his plot.

Another problem I found with this story is shockingly the art. Now I love George Perez, but I’m starting to see a trend no one seems to notice. Yes he does gorgeous pencils and some of his pages are massive and breath taking. But here’s my big problem with the guy: it’s ultimately too difficult to know what is going on. This is something I noticed when reading his classic ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ or even a simple ‘Brave and the Bold’ art….I cant figure out the panel layouts and it is very hard to figure out what the hell is going on. One moment I see Thor in the middle of the page making a speech, the next I see the heroes fighting Kronas….What just happenend in those two to three panels that I missed? Ultimately the art is classic Perez and it’s impressive to look at; but if you cant figure out the panel layouts then you will be confused to no end here.

It’s a shame….Marvel and DC could definitely have something going if they can just do a crossover book right. I mean if DC and Marvel can do crossovers within their own universe, why cant these two merge and make a cohesive story? At the end of the day it’s a nice vibe thinking this is a Silver Age story….but there is just no reason for me to come back to this again. I say you wont miss much if you just skip it.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good

  1. TNC: You are totally right.  I could have written the hell out of this.  This comic sucked.  George Perez secretly sucks, too.  If only people would listen to a young guy like me comics would be better.
