Now this is what I’m talking about!

Says me, out loud in an empty house, while I read the second issue in the longest released mini in the history of comics.

This is what the Ultimate line should have been providing us this entire time. Give us new spin on the characters while also entertaining us with good fight scenes or thoughtful discussions. This is what Lindeloff is giving us this issue with probably the best insight into Hulk/Banner in years! I enjoyed every moment of this comic; whether it’s Banner talking to his therapist, to Hulk eating cows, to this wonderful conversation with the Dali Lama in the mountains. This is what a Hulk comic should be; a great insight to a man who has a monster inside him while also providing us hilarious or suspensful stuff with the Hulk. All the jokes worked in this issue especially the one that raises why Hulk is suddenly green when he should be grey in this universe.

But what also makes this series work for me is Yu’s fabluous pencils and Dave McCaig’s colors. It might not be as polished as the first issue, but this is some of Yu’s best work and I cannot wait to see his chops when we get the new issues going. Yu just provides a staggering amount of detail (like look at the small window in the therapist’s office) and the panel layouts are just creative and interesting to look at.

I’m gald I got into this mini now and not be crushed like the previous followers were when it went on hiatus. This is the most fun I’ve had with an Ultimate title in years. Again this is what the Ultimate line should be providing to readers, whether new or regular readers. Unlike the medicore Fantastic Four series, or the god awful X-Men series; this my friends is how a comic should be done.

Story: 4 - Very Good
