That’s a bad book she’s reading.

I’ve really enjoyed this series since catching up. But now, I can safely say I can see why it is so good. This is not only the best issue of the series to date, it is also my favorite.

The interaction with these characters are amazing. They feel natural and somehow Brian K. Vaughan can make any ridiculous situation realistic. The opening pages in this are so damn funny for so many reasons. I too feel the same way when I read an amazing book and no one is interested. But the sequences with Alana and Marko’s dad is the highlight for me. I love the swerve of it all and their dialogue is so funny and yet feels realistic. (Well as realistic as you can be piloting a treeship.)

It is the art though that will always make me coming back for more. Fiona Staples is the master of emotions. Look at the faces of these characters. The moment we see Marko and Alana fall in love you can instantly see it on their faces in the panel. The way Marko’s mother rolls her eyes in another panel perfectly showcases her annoyance. The massive balls on the giant showcases….well his balls. Anyways, Staples is such an amazing artist and it is the devil in the details that make it so.

I’ve finally hit the point where I am in love with this series as much as anyone else. This is a funny, heartfelt, and gorgeous issue from start to finish. BKV and his titles are always known to be a slowburn and they always are suited for trade. This is the first time though I can safely say I am down on reading any BKV book in issue. It is too damn good of a read to wait that long.
