Just this past weekend I picked up the vol. 1 TPB and chapter seven. I could not wait until today to get my hands on this, and it did not disappoint. This series, so far, is the most impressive thing I have read in my (relatively short) experience with comics (outside of a couple classics).

Ok, on to the issue. As a number of people have noted already, the cover is awesome, and Ms. Staples continues to wow inside the book as well. Her process walk-through in the back matter is particularly interesting. Her layouts are excellent, easily allowing my mind to create the camera movements implied between panels, and her faces have a wonderful range of expression. She continues to have a great grasp on color-use.

As for the story, this is probably my favorite chapter yet. Marko’s parents are already becoming exceedingly well-fleshed out with just the passing of one issue. And the groundwork has been laid for what promises to be a very interesting and dynamic relationship between Alana and Barr. The issue hits all the right notes, further developing personal, intimate relationships while effectively advancing the grander story arc. A couple of good cliffhangers to keep you thirsting for next month as well.

I really love this book.
