Grant Morrison......you son of a bitch.

After all this time, we finally know why he had such a hard time getting this ending out. This might be the penultimate issue, but the final page of this issue just shows how gutsy and serious Morrison is on this 'Final Crisis'.

For all intent and purposes, this is just a set up issue to get us into the finale. Everyone is getting ready to make their final stand on Darkseid. The Flashes, Allen and West, get ready to run away from death to get near Darkseid; Mr. Terrific, Mr. Miracle, and the Japanese Superheroes get ready to spread love around the planet, and the most chilling idea comes from The Question's storypoint. Checkmate is actually thinking of taking a few people from this Earth, take them to another Earth from the Multiverse, and leave the rest to their fate. That idea that they are willing to run away from the problems of this Earth; is disturbing and cool in too many ways. The ground soliders, or everyone else in the DCU; is having a hard time. The Marvel family, other then Black Adam, can never be in their hero form again (which btw was a really great fight with Supergirl). The heroes stuck on the JLA satellite try to fight off the minions of Darkseid. Finally Luthor and Sivana turn their backs on Libra and fight back as well. All of these moments were fun to read and we're entertaining. The only thing I didnt get was this 'Twany' character....if anyone could help me with that I will understand it more.

But let's face facts here, all of these elements will be ignored. Again.....Grant Morrison is a son of a bitch. He's a brilliant writer but still.....he's a son of a bitch. Why you ask? Well....Morrison did it. He did the thing no one thought he actually could do. Everyone, including myself, thought RIP was just a methaphor for something more. Not a preamble to actually show something bad for Batman. Well...we we're wrong. Grant Morrison did it, he KILLED Batman. I was completely flabbergasted when I saw that final page. I didnt think Morrison had the guts to kill off one of, if not, the greatest comic book character on the planet. But he did it.

There is so much else to talk about with this issue. The art is jumbled up and it's even hard to tell who is who doing what pages. But I just dont have the heart to continue. Morrison did , what I thought, was impossible in today's age of comics. He killed off a major character, one of the trinity of the DC, hell the most popular comic character. But let's face it.....We still have one more issue to go. One more issue to see just how drastic the DCU will be after this Crisis.

Question, shouldn’t the credit (or the blame) go to DC editorial for killing Batman? Morisson is the hired gun who pulled the trigger but this was not without DC’s editorial approval.

And I don’t understand why you feel this was "impossible in today’s age of comics". In fact it gets done quite a bit.

@JJ: Yeah B or other minor characters get killed all the time. But I would never think, especially with a $1 Billion film to come out; would DC allow Morrison to kill off a major character.

Your right though, even though Editorial (and I’m sure Dan Didio was pissed off) gave Morrison a huge problem with the end of this series….they let him do it. So I’ll give them props for having the guts to allow this.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing he surprised DC editorial halfway through this with "hey, btw, I gonna kill Batman". This was likely agreed upon before any scripts were written.

@JJ: I’m talking about today. Superman was a whole other generation of comic book fans.

Green Lantern was no where near as popular as he is now when they killed Jordan off. If we’re talking about Barry Allen then again that’s another generation not ours. But if we’re talking about Bart, he was no where near as popular was Wally or Barry. When was the last time a Flash character was important to the DCU?

If Marvel killed Captain America, or at least Steve Rogers; then this is the DC equal of doing that. No one as big as Batman, other then Captain America, has been literally killed and shown to be dead in a comic. Plus again, this is during the heels of having a film where this character gave $1 Billion to a film company (who had complaints to Morrison as well) and a crap load of money for DC as well.

Heck if you think about it. Captain America was no where near this popular when he got killed.

To the best of my knowledge, Tawky is a tiger that some how gained the ability to talk & a desire to act as a human. He became a part of the Capt Marvel family a long time ago, kinda like their Krypto, except he can talk. I don’t know much else about him, other then him showing up in the Capt Marvel maxi series not to long ago. His wiki article focus mostly on the gold/silver-age appearances.

Amillion thanks for clarifying what my I saw&read on those last few pages.If they are gonna "kill" Batman, they have to leave one HUGE out so as to undo it.
