So right now, Blackest Night hasn't been my thing. It's on a bit of a down trend lately but there is a bright spot ladies and gentlemen. That would be Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason providing some of the best material for the event in GLC. As of right now they ended the previous issue with a startling 'death' and the Black Lanterns going after the battery. With this issue, not only does Tomasi further those plot points; but he has written my favorite issue of Green Lantern Corps.

Not a single page is wasted and every single thing in this issue was gold. You have Guy Gardner turning into a Red Lantern which was absolutely insane. Everything he did as a Red Lantern was so badass and exciting to read. From him just wiping everyone in sight to the final fate of Kryb; it was just so bloody and awesome. Then you have everyone just trying to save Kyle Rayner and making sure he doesnt turn into a Black Lantern. That was a tense couple of pages cause I really thought Tomasi was going to do it.

Then we have the last couple of pages and let me stress something. Yes this is my pick and I still mean that this is my favorite issue of this title. But bringing Kyle back to life so quickly was a bit of a downer. It doesn't hurt my view of the issue or anything, but I was really hoping Tomasi was going to keep this death permanent for a while. Maybe bring him back after the event, but an issue just after the 'holy shit' ending from last month? Again just a little too soon.....Still it is still a fantastic issue on a writing standpoint and if anything else it would drop my grade from a 5/5 to a 4.5/5.

Patrick Gleason has been an uneven artist for almost this entire year. He's not doing the pattern of 'one issue good, one issue uneven' like he did before. But last issue was not very good on an overall sense of continuity. Here, this is not the issue and I found this to be a very good looking title. I love the stuff in the beginning with Guy just trying to stop Kyle's ring from leaving. Great detail on just adding the chains to keep it from moving. Then the stuff with Guy as a Red Lantern, again, it looks absolutely amazing. Or how about the shot with the other Indigo lantern coming in with the rings right behind him? Great. Finally, you have the best final two pages in comics this year. Just a huge drawing of Mogo and although he doesn't have a face.....I gotta think that Mogo is mighty pissed right now.

Loved this issue, again my favorite issue of this series this year. What Tomasi is doing right now is adding more to the story of these particular Green Lanterns but weaving in Blackest Night to advance the story. What Johns is failing at right now with the main event, Tomasi is executing the pacing perfectly. Hopefully Gleason can just stay consistant for more then an issue or two. Either way, best issue of the week for me and if you have yet to read this issue now is this time!
