PROS:
-I would like to see Hickman do some sort of series with Black Panther. He writes him and the mythology so well I’m surprised he hasn’t written the character before this. Of course it’s not surprising since this is his bread and butter. Ancient civilizations? Gods? Secrets involving both? Sounds like an issue of Pax Romana and not an issue of Fantastic Four.
-The art by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Karl Kesel (who do the pencils and finishes respectively) is a little rough but it grew on me as I read it. A lot of the designs are inspired with the Wakandian city of the dead and the various creatures that inhabit it. Also, their interpretations of past incarnation’s of Black Panther were pretty cool too. I wanna see more of that Black Panther in a suit fighting German soldier.
CONS:
-The only real issue I had with this issue was that in the long run: This was just a story to get Black Panther back to status-quo. Okay maybe he isn’t totally back to normal, but he’s pretty much got the title back so now he can rule Wakanda again. I don’t mind it so much but considering Hickman has so many issues left it is a bit annoying he did this issue just to sweep up somebody’s mess.
CONCLUSION:
-A solid issue all around by Hickman as usual. It’s a little annoying this is just ‘fix’ issue in that Black Panther had to go back to status quo. But what Hickman writes here is his wheelhouse so you’ll enjoy it either way. The art by Camuncoli and Kesel is just as good but to be honest I cannot wait for Stegman next month. Bring on Stegman!
