This new idea for Incredible Hercules has definitely won me over. Telling two different stories but breaking them into seperate issues makes a lot of sense. That way the writers can tell each story without interrupting the flow of either one. Sure it’s a bit of a setback to wait for the next issue but that’s something I can live with. It also doesn’t hurt that for this concept the series is bi-weekly for a time. So you never get lost on what happened in each story respectively.

Although I will say that Cho’s storyline is a bit confusing at first. Mainly because it’s kinda a spoof on ‘The Prisioner’ and I never got that show. (Although it is very entertaining to watch) Another reason I got confused on this is well….I never play Dungeons and Dragons. So the aspects of Cho and the villain playing D&D was kinda lost on me. But Pak and Van Lente wrote this in a way where I can follow it and make it as basic as it can get. I love how they mixed this game into a pulpy radio show. It’s mixing two ideas that a regular reading probably won’t understand. Seeing Cho and Master Mind as kids was cute but also pretty much kept me interested. They are written like little kids but it doesnt get annoying when they vary the ages every other page. The issue was a little bit light on humor, but this series can definitely work on it’s own as an action romp.

Both stories in this have great artwork by the artists. Buchemi’s detail is really great especially when it comes to the fight scenes. But his backgrounds are really well done and that’s definitely true when the room Cho is in starts to change around. That scene where the stairs suddenly disappears was fun to watch. But also Buchemi has great backgrounds in this and the best comes from the crater we see at the end of the issue. That is the most realistic take of a crater I’ve ever seen, That’s coming from a guy who read Asterios Polyp.

We still have one more issue of Cho’s and Hercules tale to finish. I was a bit worried if the pacing of  both would get a bit hectic. But with four issues out in two months this is still one of the best series to come out for Marvel. Plus I love that final page reveal where a certain character in the Spider-Man comics meets up with a love interest of Hercules. It’s probably a very subtle start for when the big storyline ‘Assualt on New Olympus’ begins. I so cannot wait for that thing to start.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
