John Layman and Rob Guillory

It took me a long time, stupidly I might add, to realize this arc is all about Toni Chu. No idea why it took me so long to figure this out considering each issue for this arc has dealt with her in some capacity. But now with this issue, John Layman has put Toni in the spotlight as the main character for this series.

Any issue with this series is going to be hard to review because they are so damn good. I don’t know how Layman and Rob Guillory do this every single issue. It is astonishing that there hasn’t been a lull or even a bad issue in over two years. Clearly these two guys love what they do and with having more power at Image they can get away with almost anything. Where else are you going to get a vampire kidnapping a woman who can turn anyone into a super model? No where that’s where.

I could easily have read this with no dialogue because Guillory’s pencils are just that good. You got a lot of jokes tucked away into each page and just in general he doesn’t lose you with his layouts. But I don’t wanna make this sound like a disservice to Mr. Layman. He’s one of the funniest men writing comics right now and I gotta think he has put some of these background jokes into his script. Either way, this series shows just what can be done when two men work together and are on the same wavelength. If either of these men decided not to work together on this book I seriously doubt it would have lasted this long, let alone plan for sixty issues.
