We’re finally at the end of Jason Aaron’s first arc of Punisher Max. I’m feeling a bit…..I’m not sure really.

This was a soild ending to be sure. Lots of messed up things happen that I didn’t see coming. Aaron is perfect at just making horrible things happen. What happens to Kingpin’s family? Messed up. How the Punisher deals with the Menonite? Predictable but still messed up. The tease for the next story? Not messed up but damn that image make me excited for the future. Basically all around it was a soild issue.

Steve Dillon is also doing a pretty damn good job on this title too. There are some over the top, or funny, drawings in this. (The look on the horse’s face after the C4 is an example) For the most part though. Dillon makes this as serious as it can be. When people die, it is gruesome and bloody. I never noticed before but he does explosion effects pretty well too. There are some instances where characters look somewhat similar. Always been a problem with him I notice. But again, another solid issue all around by him.

I am a bit confused though….not the first time. This has been a very good series since Aaron/Dillon came on board. But once the story hit it’s groove, about the end of the 2nd issue, then nothing really ‘wow’ stood out. I wonder if this will happen with the next arc where the set up will be amazing to read but stay at a constant barring for the rest? Either way you can’t get any better with this series, fucked up or not.
