Pellet Reviews

Batman: Risso is really showing why he is a great artist for Batman. Love the lighting in this and the dog fight was really brutal. Although I don’t know where this story is going with only two issues left.

Kamandi: More Lions with guns! Gorillas die in a bloodbath! All rendered beautifully by Sook’s artwork!

Superman: I hope in the near future Bermejo does a Superman ongoing. Cause that is the best drawing of heat vision ever. Story is still medicore…

Deadman: Again the story here seems to be over with only two issues to go. Still great art by Heuck in this, I still think his work is getting a bit forgotten here.

Green Lantern: Pretty much a quiet issue before Hal kicks all of those alien’s asses. Like how Risso came back into form a couple of strips ago with Batman; Quinones pencils are looking a lot better.

Sgt. Rock: The stab at the end of the strip reminds me of Inglourious Basterds. This is the slowest Nazi guard ever though with Rock.

Algon: Now this is the Metamorpho story….before he got killed last strip. All I know is that this is a great strip and Java kinda likes Broccoli.

Teen Titans: Okay why is Gizmo being introduced as the main villain with only two strips left?

Strange Adventures: Thanks to Strange Tales, I have gotten a bit more fond with Pope’s art. I’ll probably go back to the older issues to read this series again.

Supergirl: Dr. Mid-Nite might have a stalker on his hands. Considering how much Supergirl loves to talk about him this strip…

Metal Men: So are the heroes doomed to kill themselves? If that’s the case, this is a depressing ending Didio will write. But they’ll find a way out!

Wonder Woman: *reads Deadpool: Games of Death*

Demon and the Cat: I didn’t realize how little Catwoman has added to this story. She’s not back into costume, but gets possessed very easily! Weak.

The Flash: I don’t know what’s going on anymore with this. But who cares? The art by Fletcher totally makes up for the confusing plot.

Hawkman: Favorite moment of the week for me here. Where Hawkman taunts the T-Rex just because it can’t touch his nose. For an angry man like himself that is a very silly taunt for him.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. I agree with your reviews. It seems that we feel similarly about most of these books. If I were to give a letter grade for the issues to date, the only clear-cut A’s would be Supergirl (what a surprise!), Deadman, and Kamandi. There are a lot in the B+ range: Superman (art much better than story), Metamorpho (a bit too gimicky), Strange Adventures (I’m just having a hard time getting invested in the story), Batman (started better, now getting a bit slow), Hawkman (maybe just a bit too simple), and The Flash (brilliant concepts, but lacking just a bit of cohesion). I’m underwhelmed (B-) by Green Lantern (surprising, as I am a big Busiek fan), Demon and Cat (I get it – Etrigan’s the last survivor of Camelot), Metal Men (it’s the same thing every week), and Sgt. Rock (beautiful pictures, mediocre sequential art). Teen Titans is a C- at best. Wonder Woman is a fail.

This is the book I look most forward to each week. I would love to see this as DC’s summer special every year.
