I’ve been vocal about the Hellboy one-shots being so much more entertaining than the actual ongoing adventures the last couple of years. Maybe we’re at the point where Hellboy’s random stories in the past are better suited then his overall ‘fate’ in his universe. That’s for another topic for another time though as we got a new 2-issue mini of yet another previous adventure for Hellboy.

While this isn’t the strongest vampire story Mignola has done so far, it’s still pretty good. We learn exactly why European vampires are so much better then anywhere else, while Hellboy is acting his usual badass self. Nothing particually remarkable or bad about this issue, it was a lot of fun to read. Although I’m not sure why this couldn’t be just a one-shot and had to be stretched to two issues. If it’s for the Scott Hampton art then it definitely seems to be justified. Like the Jill Thompson one-shot from before, Hampton has a great painted style. Add in the great coloring by Dave Stewart and it really is a great looking book.

Again, not the strongest vampire story by Mignola but still a lot of fun to read. Looking forward to see Hellboy bash in a few (scratch that, A LOT) vampire heads next month.

Story: 4 - Very Good
