You know what the highlight of this issue was? Andres Guinaldo’s art! It surprised me on how great the art was considering last issue it wasn’t so good. Maybe he was rushed to do the last issue because #11 had some major problems for me. But here? It was really pleasant to look at. I never would have thought that a double page spread in a Nightwing issue would be the ‘Best Page(s) of the Week’ but there is a spread in here that is absolutely gorgeous. It looks like Guinaldo’s style is a much cleaner Guillem March and considering he’s filled in for the majority of his titles it’s a no brainer to see the resemblance. Even with two inkers his art doesn’t suffer apart from the odd looking faces towards the end. That and Dick kinda looks Asian in a few panels at the end. But apart from that, and with the help of Rod Reis on colors, this is a good looking issue.

The story ends on a solid note, although it feels very similar to the Talon tie-ins from a few issues back. Why Paragon just can’t kill Dick in the sewers is a mystery. But then again it’s a Batman related title so the villains ALWAYS have to give the hero a chance. I hope we see more of Detective Nie because, even if his introduction was mishandled, he could be a nice supporting character for the book.

The one word could sum up this issue for me it would be ‘improvement’. Mostly on the art side because Andres Guinaldo’s art is miles better then what we saw last week. If Guinaldo’s had another chance at this book I could see him be a nice replacement for Eddy Barrows. While this hasn’t turned into one of the best series at DC, Kyle Higgins continues to surprise me on how he can make this ‘new’ version of Nightwing impossible to stop reading.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good
