There’s no denying that The Punisher is a murderer. But why do people go to him when they need help, or are so in awe of him? Basically he is fighting a war that no one has the energy for, or the passion for, or even a vendetta against. But when Garth Ennis took us into his world on this MAX line, he tried to show that Punisher was more then a vigilante. He really is fighting the bad guys for the people, even if he doesnt take the compliments in good terms.

The last issue by Hurwitz made me satisfied about where this new run is going to take us. Obviously it is no where near the quality of Ennis, but this new guy is doing a bang up job so far. This issue we get more into the reasons of why women are getting kidnapped and brutally slaughtered. It actually is an interesting concept and it was cool to see how Punisher got these guys to talk. (Just watch the film Rocky and you know where I’m getting at). But the art is still a bit iffy on me. Laurence Campbell is trying to make this too gritty and dark for it’s own good. Some of the characters look detailed in one page, but in the next it’s all sketchy. Very uneven, and again in my last review, when did daytime suddenly feel so dark?

Overall it’s only two issues in, but I am very pleased what is going on here. Hurwitz is trying to make his own Punisher story and not go on the rails of Ennis. He does a good job getting to the story and the chracterizations of the people. If he stays this route and try not to be complicated on the story, then I’ll be picking this up and not get too worried when the next creative team jumps in. Oh and BTW: That was a pretty messed up 2 final pages….

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 3 - Good
