I’m just going to put this out into the open right now and let me see if you feel the same way.

This comic is starting to bore me.

Not saying this was a bad issue, for all intent and purposes it was solid. But for some reason I am just finding myself really hard to care about this series at the moment. Maybe it’s because I’m not an uber Barry Allen fan, or just a Flash fan in general. I’m not sure, but I do know boredom is starting to creep in.

The story itself just isn’t clicking with me. Or what story there is. Since, once again, we get an epic half of the book dedicated to show just how fast Barry can be. When the words are being spouted though; with hintings of a dark future, or the banter of the bad guys, it just isn’t sitting with me. Obviously this can’t be good, since we still have two issues (!?) before the end of this arc. I really hope Johns can bring some type of momentum with the story and fast.

Manapul brings more of the goodness with the art. Although I would be lying if I stated that the coloring seemed a bit off with this issue. Background are good enough, but their ‘blah’ coloring really stood out. When we have that great two page splash of Flash saying ‘Nice view’ I thought to myself: ‘Really? Looks like you’re city is suffering from smog at the moment…’. Getting past the bad coloring, the art itself is still pretty good. Since Johns is letting Manapul work it for half an issue each month, I can’t really complain.

So yeah I really hope this series can get itself back to being interesting soon. Otherwise a trade wait might be in order after this arc. Although I don’t know if I’m up for waiting a long time for more Manapul goodness.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

Comments

  1. Johns’ scripting is getting to be a bit, stretched. He can get 12 issues out of a typical 3 issue arc easily. GL did in 52 issues what most could in 18. Fans are already beginning to cry "Wally". IMO it wouldn’t matter if who was the speedster, the book will crawl with Johns at the helm.

I think going back to the timeline/speed force formula out of the gate was a crucial mistake.

With the threat of a "Flashpoint" event looming and all the tie-ins that implies I am gone when this arc ends.

This kind of forever building to what is next by the big 2 is killing my love for comics.

  2. My feelings exactly, trades it is
