I have been stating this every single issue of Green Lantern Corps have come out….But after months of indifference to the guy I just cant take it anymore:

I want Patrick Gleason off this title in the worst way.

His pencils man, are just so off putting sometimes it bugs the hell out of me. The first page in this looks good enough, a nice use of detail with the crazed spaceship and all…but then turn the page to look at Sodam Yat….What the hell is up with that face? I know he is suppose to look angry but…he looks like a completely different creature with that awful pencil design. It’s like this threw out the whole issue and everything else Gleason has done for this series. Some pages have incredible detail and some good designs in them. Those pages with the Mongul/Arkillo fight are great to look at. But other set peices like Rayner’s apartment is just plain ugly to look at. I really think Rayner changes faces every other panel. I love the coloring and inking in this series, it definitely is one of the brightest books out today, or at least it looks the most imaginative.

Other then that this was a soild issue. Tomasi is definitely getting the ball rolling for Blackest Night. The stuff with Sodam and Arisia got boring after awhile and he was just banging us over the head with exposition for Sodam. Again the stuff with Mongul is excellent and I cant wait to see where he’s going to fit within this entire storyline. Even the small stuff like with Kryb in the Violent Lanterns holding cell was great. I actually felt sorry for her….well more so for the babies she still has on her planet she captured. I tell you what I am getting tired of is the stupid narration with the Black Lantern Guardian. Talk about being overused, it’s a shame this character was used to death for Origins and Omens. Cause the impact of that character would’ve been great if he wasnt used so much.

Overall this was a soild issue on the writing front. But Gleason just has to go in my eyes. His inconsistant pencils is driving me mad and it’s hurting the overall fun times I could be having with this title. But until that happens, I guess I got no choice but to deal with ugly characters for the time being.

  1. Yeah the Black Guardin reminds me of the Wacther intros in the old What If’s.
