Name: Erik Hanson

Bio: Started seriously collecting comics with 1983's Atari Force. Soon followed by Swamp Thing which opened the DC universe to me. Up until 1989-90 I was all DC, but I was seduced by the dark side of the force - namely X-Force and the early 90's craze of over the top art work and lack of story (see Image Comics). It would take DC's Preacher to bring me back to my senses.

February 3, 2019 4:33 pm Well IronyJohn, you definitely lived up to your namesake with that comment. ;)
February 3, 2019 12:17 pm As always, good show guys! I like how you snuck that Trainspotting reference in there Josh. And Conor, not to be outdone, throws out a Ghostbusters reference with his “big Twinkie” line. Nice work! I hope Tom King sticks the landing in Heroes in Crisis, but time is running out and each issue seems to toy with the reader more. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the outstanding art, this series probably wouldn’t have as much traction as it does. With all that said, I’m still invested and counting on King to deliver the goods. Speaking of goods, Action Comics is SO fucking good! Coloring issues aside, this book has been such a joy to read month after month.
January 20, 2019 11:44 am THE PODCAST OF THE BEAST! Great show guys! Although I missed Josh, Ryan is always a welcome substitute - nice work Ryan! So, I only read DC books, not because I don't like Marvel or any of that, it's merely a matter of money. At an average of 3.99 a pop, comics add up quick, and hey man, I got bills to pay. As a result I kinda, sorta, fast forward the podcast during the Marvel discussions (sorry dudes). Superman #7 - thanks to a little Relativity, it feels like Bendis has finally found Jon Kent's voice, and of course that voice is from a 17 year old. Bendis writes teenagers better than most and I can't wait to see what happens next in this title. Superman's family dynamics is forever altered. Detective Comics #996 - 4 more issues until the #1000 milestone and Tomasi and Mahnke are ratcheting up the stakes in this title big time! Someone or something is taking out Bruce Wayne's teachers and mentors from before he became Batman making this mystery extremely personal and emotional for Bruce. Poor Batman has been put through the emotional wringer the last couple of years, no wonder he is taking out his aggressions on the Arkham Asylum inmates again and again and again and.... The Batman Who Laughs #2 - after the goofiness of Metal, this feels series feels like Scott Snyder getting back to telling edgy and darker superhero tales that make our skin crawl. My first exposure to Snyder was back in his classic Black Mirror saga in Detective Comics and the cool thing is with The Batman Who Laughs, it’s sort of an unofficial sequel to that story arc. Heavy shit here.
January 13, 2019 10:42 am Another stellar podcast my friends! My "pull-list" this week was full of "Pick of the Week" titles... Young Justice #1 as you talked about, was good old fashioned comic book fun. Bendis is batting a 1000 right now at DC. (And seriously, I know it makes you groan, but you should search out his Walmart Batman series. Best Written Batman book on the stands right now.) Speaking of good old fashioned comic book fun, The Green Lantern #3 continues to deliver just that. I absolutely love the retro feel of Morrison and Sharps story. Batman #62.... uh.... um.... fucking Tom King man. If this dude wasn't so talented I would be suspicious of his post wedding issue Batman run. Is this guy just messing with us and secretly hates the character and just phoning in scripts? Or is there a larger canvas and picture we just can't see yet because we are getting little bits and pieces at a time? And in the end, when we step back and see the whole painting, we'll understand and appreciate it? I hoping for the latter but I’m starting to get frustrated. Has this been the first time, since Morrison's JLA, a Justice League comic has been this entertaining for this long? In Justice League #15 Snyder and Co. sustain the enjoyment of DC's premier team book - as it should be - with a captivating "heist" story on Hawkworld. Just wish Cheung had handled the art on the whole issue. And I have I say, I'm a little shocked at you dudes for not talking about Martian Manhunter #2 on today's episode. Holy shit man, where did this Orlando guy come from?! My only exposure to his previous work was on that other Justice League of America book, and that writing was just "okay". But this shit? This is next level stuff. Steve Orlando and artist Riley Rossmo are constructing a masterpiece here. J'onn J'onzz has never felt more human and alien at the same time - not an easy feat. The Martian home world is fleshed out and expansive, filled with characters and vistas you want to spend time with and not just hurry up and turn the page. And honestly, guys, how can this book not have been your pick of the week with dialogue like this, "You're not waiting with the body? Did you at least do the preliminary THOUGHTOPSY?" Thoughtopsy, yes!!!!!
January 6, 2019 1:12 pm Nice kick off to 2019 dudes! And just to let you know, I’ve been to a hoedown, and this podcast is nothing like a hoedown.... ... it’s more like a “hootenanny”. 😉
December 16, 2018 12:55 pm Epic show dudes! Love these year end specials as it makes me go out and search for the media I somehow let slip through the cracks (I'm on my way to go buy that Nothing record right after I post this comment!) My top picks for 2018: Movie: Annihilation TV: The Haunting of Hill House Book: Waiting to Derail: Ryan Adams and Whiskytown, Alt-Country's Brilliant Wreck Music: Beach House "7" Comic Book: Action Comics On a personal note: I love when the original iFanboys get together for a podcast. You guys - Conor, Josh, and Ron - have a nice rapport that you don't find in many podcasts( or any other type of "casts" for that matter). You can hear the many years of friendship in your voices. Thanks for all the years of listening and reading enjoyment. Don't ever quit!
December 9, 2018 12:59 pm Nice show dudes! I was a little scared when I read “last pick of the week for the year!”, but those fears were put to rest by the end of the show today. Glad you'll be giving me something to listen to Sunday mornings for the next 3 weeks! The iFanboy podcast is part of my Sunday morning routine: cook breakfast, drink coffee, throw on a record on the turntable, listen to Conor and Josh talk about comics. Loved Doomsday Clock and Green Lantern this week but I'm curious what you guys thought about Batman #60?
December 4, 2018 8:17 am Hey the WAC1, Each Superman book has its own storyline going on: The main “Superman” title is dealing with villain Rogol Zaar and focuses on big set pieces (ie: sucking the Earth into the Phantom Zone). “Action Comics” has the more intimate Invisible Mafia story happening and deals with the characters surrounding Clark Kent and his relationships with them (and for my money the better of the two books). You should definitely pick up Action 1005. Perfect time to hop into the story.
December 2, 2018 5:26 pm Action Comics #1005 bullet points: * I love how every issue starts with the desktop splash / intro page. Perfect. * Bendis does a great job explaining the Hero Dial for those of us that have never read any issues of Dial H for Hero. * very cool seeing The Question show up. * I'm kinda, sorta hoping Clark has an affair with Melody Moore. I know it's fucked up for Superman to cheat on his wife, but Bendis did allude to Clark and Lois having an "open relationship" last issue. So who knows, it could make for some titillating scenarios. * does Mayor Hopkins have ties to the Invisible Mafia? Possibly. One thing's for sure, he can't handle his liquor. * Red Cloud showing up to take on Superman was like something out of a horror movie. Brilliantly rendered by Sook. * Action Comics is the best DC book out on the stands right now.
November 25, 2018 2:01 pm Love him or hate him, you can say this about Tom King, he's definitely keeping things interesting. And that's half the battle these days: keeping our attention. Batman hitting Gordon? Yeah, not cool, and not my kinda of "Batman", but hell, I can't wait to see where this story goes. It's a bumpy ride King is taking us on, and I'm strapped in for the journey. By the way, you know who is writing the best Batman Book right now? Bendis. Over on his "Walmart" Batman run. Chapter 3 just dropped this week and holy shit, it's by far the most "Bendis" of Bendis since he's been at DC. Incredibly fun story. Worth tracking down!
