Man will I be glad when this month of DC number 1’s is over with. Come October I will know the good comics from the shitty ones. In the meantime each new number one that comes out I buy, and with it the possibility of it being shit. Sometimes you win (Superboy!) – sometimes you lose (Red Hood and the Outlaws).

Mark another check in the “lose” column with Captain Atom number 1.

(excuse me while I yell here for a second)

Why didn’t J.T Krul start of this series with the FUCKING origin of Captain Atom!!!! Again, another comic book with a hero we know nothing about. We are told nothing about. And in the end, CARE nothing about. In fact, I don’t even think we Captain Atom’s real name is mentioned in the comic. Who was this guy before his “accident”? Is this how you start off a new series?

Dude flies around battling some robot we are told nothing about. Then meets some dude in a wheelchair that tells him that if he uses his powers he will die (seen that before in Spawn. Shit, they eve have a “countdown” box appear on the page every time Captain Atom uses his power). Then for some odd reason a goddamn volcano erupts in Manhattan.

To quote Quint from Jaws, “Jesus H. Christ.”

Horrible art too. Looks like it was drawn with Crayola’s

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 2 - Average

  1. Really good review. I don’t think I hated it as much as you did but I can’t disagree with your comments. Maybe I just don’t have high standards. The Crayon’s comment was well earned by Freddie Williams II, it was bad.

    • Hate is such a strong word…. well wait, let me read Captain Atom again, hang on………………………
