I don’t know much about Captain Atom; I read Generation Lost over the last year and enjoyed him in that story, so thought I would try this out. As a first issue, the book hits the mark for the most part. Atom’s powers and motivations (for this issue) are explained in a way that’s a little inorganic, but is still enjoyable. A few parts of the plot had me wondering what exactly was going on, but it was certainly competent till the end.
By far the best part was art from Freddie Williams as well as Jose Villarrubia. I’ve never seen any of their either work, but it reminded me of Francis Manapul on Flash combined with Gabriel Hardman’s Hulk. Colors were vibrent (Atom in particular always stuck out in a good way) and both the pages and layout were really enjoyable. This art team more then the story is really why I’ll be coming back for at least one more issue
