Well what started with a bang is ending with a whimper.

As you no doubt know, if you are even taking time to read this review, I, Vampire is being canceled. Another causality of the New 52. And that sucks because I, Vampire was one of the better New 52 comics out there – way better then some of the original 52 that are still on the stands (Legion of Super Heroes, Teen Titans, Stormwatch, Suicide Squad to name a few). But since the departure of Andrea Sorrentino who left to do Green Arrow and the announcement of the ending of this title, I, Vampire has just been living on life support. Going through the motions. The last two issues have suffered from rushed art and poor pacing. I don’t blame this on Fialkov’s writing, who I’m sure had all this plotted out from the start, but more on the Editors fucking around with things and sucking the blood out of this comic (pun fucking intended).

One cool thing I always enjoyed about this comic was how Fialkov named each story after a song by one of his favorite bands. The Pixies being the band he used the most.

Let’s take a moment and go through each issue and see what song from what band he used shall we?

ISSUE #0: Story Title, “Break My Body” – song from the band The Pixies

ISSUE #1: Story Title, “Tainted Love” – – song from the band Soft Cell

ISSUE #3: Story Title, “Numb” – song from the band The Cure

ISSUE #4: Story Title, “Inbetween Days” – song from the band The Cure

ISSUE #5: Story Title, “Gouge Away” -song from the band The Pixies

ISSUE #6: Story Title, “The Charming Man” – song from the band The Smiths

ISSUE #7: Story Title, “Blame it on Cain” – song from Elvis Costello

ISSUE #8: Story Title, “Cruel to be Kind” – song from Nick Lowe

ISSUE #9: Story Title, “Hurry Down Doomsday” – song from Elvis Costello

ISSUE #10: Story Title, “Waiting for the End of the World” – song from Elvis Costello

ISSUE #11: Story Title, “The Drowning Man” – song from the band The Cure

ISSUE #12: Story Title, “Disintegration” – song from the band The Cure

ISSUE # 13: Story Title, “Debaser” – song from the band The Pixies

ISSUE #14: Story Title, “Winterlong” – song from the band The Pixies

ISSUE #15: Story Title, “Here Comes Your Man” – song from the band The Pixies

ISSUE #16: Story Title, “Nimrod’s Son” – song from the band The Pixies

ISSUE #17: Story Title, “Wave of Mutilation” – song from the band The Pixies

Nicely done Joshua. Nicely done.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 2 - Average

  1. Never read it, but Fialkov being a Pixies fan does wonders for me checking out his stuff. Thanks for the list.
