I feel I should put a disclaimer on this review – I am writing it on my Kindle Fire while laying in bed watching American Idol (yeah, what? Is there a problem?), so please forgive me if the typos are abundant and stuff….
Anywho, you clicked that link to see what I think about Constantine #3 so let’s get to it.
When Hellblazer ended the only way us John Constantine fans could get our fix was to read Justice League Dark or old issues of the classic Vertigo series. Then DC announced John would be getting his own series and to be honest most of us didn’t have high expectations that it would fill the void left by Hellblazer.
But you know what? This book isn’t half bad. I know, I’m as shocked as the next dork but yeah, I’m digging this series so far.
Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes have delivered an mystical yarn these last three issues that have showcased what makes a character like JC worthy of getting his own series and the attributes that Alan Moore and many great writers after him embedded him with.
This three issue arc has been a wonderful read. I’ve always loved the “there are pieces of something strone about the four corners of Earth and we have to race to collect them all before the bad guys get them” kinda stories – ever since watching G.I Joe and the Pyramid of Darkness back in the days. They usually make for a fun story and one wrought with exciting locals, mysterious dangers, and last minute escapes. Constantine is no exception.
Sure this is Hellblazer lite – “less swearing, more clemency” but all things considered these first three issues would feel right at home in the Vertigo universe.
