This is not your fathers Superman….

…. well, actually it kinda is.

This comic in the hands of a veteran like George Perez is a throw back to the days when comics didn’t have to compete with the internet, instant movies, iPhones and Pods, 3d video games, and a shit load of other quick and fast entertainment. No, back in the days comics packed as much story has they could into 29 pages – yeah you heard me right, “29 pages!”

I can understand why this new Superman is rubbing some people the wrong way. Over the last 10 years we’ve been getting less and less story, but it was done so gradually that most people didn’t put up a fuss. next thing you know we are all cool with 20 pages of an event that years ago would have taken place in 2 or 3 pages.

Shit, Superman in the course of only 2 issues has managed to squeeze in 5 issues of story by todays comic book standards. I like that. I like the fact that I’m reading a “story” written by a writer and not a “screenplay” written by a fanboy (yeah Geoff Johns I’m looking at you).

This a fun comic and well written comic. It may only appeal to us old fogies but hopefully it will remind those young upstarts how it use to be done.

Story: 4 - Very Good
