How can it be that the only person that knows how to write Superman is Grant Morrison? Out of all the writers out there how can it be that only Morrison makes Superman fun to read? To be fair, Superman carries with him so much shit from 70 + years of being around that bringing a new and fresh outlook on the character is pretty hard to do. I mean case in point: The Grounded story line. What hasn’t been done before? Well about about having Superman go on a year long walk across the USA to “find” himself? Is that really the kind of story we want to read in a Superman comic? Hells no. Save that shit for Animal Man or Preacher, with Superman we want fucking SUPERMAN! I’m so tired of writers trying to humanize Kal El and make him accessible to us lower life forms. But dudes, that was never the draw of Superman in the first place. It was all about how much better this guy was at everything and how he was fighting for us. We need him to be bad assed and stop giant meteors and starfish. That’s his fucking job! Not eating pie with the Flash in a diner in Kentucky. but with all that said I get what they were trying to do here, and it just didn’t work. It sucks that the last issue of the Silver Age Superman had to be this one. DC should have knelled before Alan Moore and begged him to write another “What Ever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow” story. Of even have gotten Morrison or Gaiman or Synder or shit even Kirkman to send the big guy off with style, but all we get after 714 issues is a “wink” from Superman as he flies off with Lois.
On the bright side, we are now done with this dribble and Morrison and Perez’s Supermen are just around the corner. September can’t get here fast enough.
