It's hard to believe that this is the way that this incarnation Superman ends. A hero beloved by people all over the world as the kind of person we should aspire to be like who is honest, and decent and no matter what he fights for what's right even though it may not be popular. I will admit that I thought the Grounded story-arc had loads of potential when it first started. The idea of J Michael Stracynzki for my money one of the best science fiction writers ever taking on the Man of Steel with the amazing art of Eddy Barrows. The idea of Superman interacting with those he defended was an interesting concept and I braced for a great run and in hindsight it could be a great sentimental send-off for this version of Superman that so many fans have loved for years.
Abruptly a new writer was brought in to finish the story and Grounded plunged into mediocrity. Instead of what could have been a great wrap up felt rushed. Instead of taking a look back on everything we love about Superman turned into Superman talking to a super powered teacher in an alternate dimension (yeah alternate dimension...pretty random). In the end we find out she founds the Superman society we saw earlier in the series which is a neat idea but it did not really hit with the gravity that it should have. In the end the last Superman story was bland it was neither awesome and action packed enough to be memorable nor emotional enough to be memorable, this issue will surely leave fans excited for Morrison, Morales, Perez, and Merino taking over the Superman line.
